Just Keep Moving FORWARD
Something that I am running into as I work through this journey is some difficulty around consistent and persistent actions. I find myself performing actions that I can’t apply to my top goals. I will look at what I am doing (responding to friends on one of the social media sites for example) and then look at my goals. Hmmm….not there – does that mean I have my goals wrong? I think about it and come to the conclusion that – no… I have my goals right. I just slowly meander over to other things that are not at the top of the list. I have found a couple things that I now refer to when this happens – and it is helping. The first thing is an MIT (Brian Kim; Motivational & Inspirational Thoughts; 7/9/2009)
Even on a pitch black dark highway in the middle of the night, you can easily travel 120 miles from point A to point B.
How?
With your car headlights.
And they don’t even extend the full 120 miles.
You can’t see that far.
You can only see what’s in front of you a couple hundred feet.
And when you move forward, a couple more hundred feet after that.
And that’s all you really need to see, so long as you keep moving forward.
Those who don’t take action only see the couple hundred feet in front of them, but they don’t move forward because they want to see the whole 120 miles before they do so.
But no matter how long they stay in that spot, they’re only going to see a couple hundred feet ahead.
That is, until they finally press the accelerator and move forward to see the next couple hundred feet, and the next, and the next.
And that’s all they really need to see, so long as they keep moving forward.
I love knowing that I do not necessarily need to see the finished product, I just need to keep doing one thing, and then another, and then another.
The second thing that I say to myself comes from Dori on Finding Nemo, just keep swimming…just keep swimming… just keep swimming, swimming, swimming!
I laughed, wrote this up to share, and got back at the top goals, the main things… the most important thing… This is the advice so many successful people tell you to do. It is something that is requiring practice – and I am getting a bit better.

Day One thru Day Three – My Journey
This post continues my written journey as I began seriously working on my purpose and passion.
The day I connected with the associate on the phone was a Thursday and this Thursday was the last day prior to a ten day vacation from my J.O.B. I had researched this opportunity thoroughly on the internet. I found one site that had some extremely negative things and I found several sites that had many positive things. As I read through what the negative site posted and what some of the discussions back and forth indicated; it was clear that those throwing stones may have been doing it with ulterior motives. The abundance of evidence described this opportunity as being one of the best home business opportunities out there. The sites that rated this opportunity high often mentioned the training, support for the associates in team environments, and the great comp plan. In my research, I found (which I believe to have been Universe delivered) that this was the perfect opportunity for me. I decided by Saturday that I would start this part time until I had the ability to go full time. Everything inside of me was yelling and screaming that this was the right step to take, this was the right company to work with, and that I was now ready in my life to take that leap. I wasn’t without fear; however, my intuitive feelings were screaming way louder. And my excitement… was off the wall! I felt like I was buzzing. I immediately started tracking and journaling what I was doing and how I was feeling so that I could help others as they made this move in their life. I knew that this was going to mainly be an online business and so the first thing that I started contemplating was a name. I have owned the domain “rightfromtheheart.com” for twelve years. You heard right – twelve years. I can’t believe that it has been that long! I got it when I was in New York considering starting an alternative health consulting business (a business where I would be helping others solve their problems).
This calls for a need to flash back to the past for a moment. I have often thought about going into business for myself. There have been a handful of opportunities that I have contemplated. The first one was a Computer Support company which I was going to call “The Helping Hand”; then there was the Alternative Health venture (Right From the Heart) where I wanted to be a consultant to patients looking for alternative health. I could listen to what someone was experiencing, educate them on the different modalities and alternative medicines out there and then have different doctors and practitioners that I could refer them to. Then there was the cool coffee shop by Baruch University that would be a sanctuary to the students and any other New Yorker that wanted to drop by somewhere to study or read and have some coffee and light food. (Never named this one!) Then – there was the wine store (back in Colorado now) that would be Chateau du Vin (House of Wine). There was always some reason that I would stop working on one of these endeavors; sometimes it was money related, where I had to work a job due to “not being able to make the bills” and then didn’t have time to work the idea and sometimes it was not having enough money to cover the start up costs (and lack of belief that I would be able to get it) and then at other times there was a loss of interest. So, working on an idea and starting to go down the road of starting my own business is not new to me. And – as you will read as we travel this journey – contributes to my fears and self talk about my current undertaking.
Back to the first few days! So, my mind went to work creating the name. I figured that my “Right From the Heart” would work well with this business. I worked on a business card. Business card? Really? As I read this in my journal now, it seemed funny at first. I suppose it helped me direct all the excitement and energy to something. And – after some thought – it is not actually funny but was the right thing for me to be working on at that time. It IS when I found the heart design that I am using on my blog site, my business cards and my twitter profile. It is also a time filled with creating the vision. The first meeting with my coach wasn’t until Monday so for two days my mind continuously wandered to it as I looked forward to the conversation coming Monday.. I was glad that I was on vacation; it would have been extremely difficult to get work done at the J.O.B. The beginning of the vacation was spent taking care of my dad’s house and their dog. We always love being at his home; my step mom and him do such a great job on their yard. They have almost an acre of land that is pure escape – green grass, trees, flowers, birds galore, squirrels, raccoons, lots of peace. (With the exception of an occasional train that likes to make sure they are heard as they pass through the intersections!) Being there for the few days at this particular period in my life was no exception. So, as we were there, my mind worked on the name and thoughts about being free from the corporate mundane day in day out world. I thought about incorporating, I thought about putting together the budget and all the things that I would need. I would need the investment capital to invest in the business; I would incur some expenses that would be required in order for me to be able to run for a six (the number of months I chose) months until I had things set up enough to cover its own costs. I would also need a new computer. I would be receiving the Product (called the Discovery Series) and be able to begin it the following week on Monday so I contemplated when I might start making money. I wrote about the number of sales, the amount I would put in savings. My desire has always been to save 30% of what I am making – I hadn’t done that, but it is a goal that I will reach. (We are teaching our daughter to do this now so it isn’t so foreign to her.) I wrote about all the different things I would do with the money as I started making it. The next thing I was looking forward to was the first call with my coach.
Stay Tuned for more on my journey!!

Balance is Bogus
Balance is Bogus!
How many times have you asked for a balanced life? Is this one of your goals? After reading Harmonic Wealth: The Secret of Attracting the Life You Want by James Arthur Ray I now have a different view of this often reached for goal! James Ray was one of the teachers featured in The Secret and owns a multi million dollar corporation dedicated to teaching individuals to create wealth in all areas of their lives. His journey caught my interest because of the dual path he has traveled…one of business and the other of spirituality. He has traveled the world spending time with indigenous people; finding shamans that have helped shape his philosophy as well as running a successful corporate career. This journey plus his growing up with a father that is a Protestant minister has given him a unique platform in order to teach others on how to find the way to integrate our spiritual practices with the physical world desires. Harmonic Wealth: The Secret of Attracting the Life You Want, made it to number five on the New York Times Best-Seller List after its first week of release. To date, his books have been translated into 20 languages and are published in 83 countries around the world.
He focuses on five pillars:
1.) Financial
2.) Relational
3.) Mental
4.) Physical
5.) Spiritual
He claims “balance is bogus”; he writes that the only people that are balanced are those that are dead. My mind immediately went – - WHAT? I have been spending so much time working to balance these pieces of my life and hearing that it was BOGUS definitely caught my attention. He describes what balance is by having us picture a scale. A scale is balance and – BORING — he then compares the scale to that of a band. There is never a balance, there is always one instrument or a voice that is louder – one starts up and then stops, then another starts up and then starts… what happens is the band finds harmony. I looked up the definition of harmony:
The just adaptation of parts to each other, in any system or combination of things, or in things, or things intended to form a connected whole; such an agreement between the different parts of a design or composition as to produce unity of effect; as, the harmony of the universe.
As this sunk in I felt a rush of relief. Oh my goodness – in my head I have always struggled to keep things equal and when I found my life leaning towards one way or another I would feel a level of stress and often some guilt for not getting enough done. He explains that everyone should tune into their life and where they are in relation to each of the pillars. If there is a part of your life that seems extremely lower than the other parts then we should focus on that area for a time until it rebounds. But expect that other areas of your life will slow down as you focus on this other area. He tells us “that all five areas must have some attention all the time but not all five areas demand all your attention all the time.”
The entire book is full of questions that will challenge your beliefs, help you focus on your values and what drives you, and pearls of wisdom on how to reach goals within each of the pillars. James also conducts Weekend workshops that change thousands of lives. . I highly recommend this book and any of James Ray’s materials and free events to anyone wanting to find harmony in their own life. Play by Play?
Play by Play huh? What the heck does that mean? Well, this is the category where I will post details of the journey I am on in my life. But before I do that, I need to catch you all up.
If you read the “About Me” section you found out that I am a huge Personal Development junkie. I love working on improving myself and also helping others solve their problems. For the last twenty plus years I have worked in the corporate environment always finding myself in leadership roles. Today I am working as a Manager at a telecom company. The favorite part of my day is, and always has been, working with individuals on my teams to help them improve their lives and to also work with the team as a whole; to improve both as a team and also as a contributor to the company. I have been closely involved with the Women’s Diversity group at this company in leadership roles for several years. This role includes working with women in the organization to improve the progression and promotion of women which included – yep you got it – Personal Development. Being part of this organization also introduced me to community service; something that I have thoroughly enjoyed. In May 2009 I became President of the Women’s Diversity group as our elected President left the company. In addition to this work I am also part of a local Toastmasters group as well as a volunteer at my daughters school all of which has led to an extremely fulfilling life in which I was able to find great balance between my family, career and personal development.
Approximately eight months ago I started looking at a career in coaching. I read several books, I looked at schooling and certifications, I gathered great notes and have many wonderful ideas and things to think about for starting up a coaching business. Slowly the amount of work and effort as President of the Diversity group started challenging my balance and in looking at my priorities I decided that the coaching business investigation should be put aside. Not thrown away – just put on the back burner. Then about 7 weeks later, I read something on the Internet, about 4 weeks of free training to get your business going. That sounded quite attractive so I thought – what the heck… let’s leave my number. They called, left a message, I called back, left a message and then connected with someone. They were asking me questions on why I had contacted them about the business opportunity. Given that I didn’t realize I was signing up to look at a business opportunity, I didn’t really have one. This is clearly another example in my life where I acted intuitively. After listening to them and researching the opportunity, I decided to take a leap and do something I have never done before. It was an opportunity where I could do something part time in the Personal Development Industry and help other people solve their problems. It has led to a real change in me and my life.
This journey is what I am sharing in the Play by Play posts – this shall be the first of many….Stay tuned!
