Play by Play?
Play by Play huh? What the heck does that mean? Well, this is the category where I will post details of the journey I am on in my life. But before I do that, I need to catch you all up.
If you read the “About Me” section you found out that I am a huge Personal Development junkie. I love working on improving myself and also helping others solve their problems. For the last twenty plus years I have worked in the corporate environment always finding myself in leadership roles. Today I am working as a Manager at a telecom company. The favorite part of my day is, and always has been, working with individuals on my teams to help them improve their lives and to also work with the team as a whole; to improve both as a team and also as a contributor to the company. I have been closely involved with the Women’s Diversity group at this company in leadership roles for several years. This role includes working with women in the organization to improve the progression and promotion of women which included – yep you got it – Personal Development. Being part of this organization also introduced me to community service; something that I have thoroughly enjoyed. In May 2009 I became President of the Women’s Diversity group as our elected President left the company. In addition to this work I am also part of a local Toastmasters group as well as a volunteer at my daughters school all of which has led to an extremely fulfilling life in which I was able to find great balance between my family, career and personal development.
Approximately eight months ago I started looking at a career in coaching. I read several books, I looked at schooling and certifications, I gathered great notes and have many wonderful ideas and things to think about for starting up a coaching business. Slowly the amount of work and effort as President of the Diversity group started challenging my balance and in looking at my priorities I decided that the coaching business investigation should be put aside. Not thrown away – just put on the back burner. Then about 7 weeks later, I read something on the Internet, about 4 weeks of free training to get your business going. That sounded quite attractive so I thought – what the heck… let’s leave my number. They called, left a message, I called back, left a message and then connected with someone. They were asking me questions on why I had contacted them about the business opportunity. Given that I didn’t realize I was signing up to look at a business opportunity, I didn’t really have one. This is clearly another example in my life where I acted intuitively. After listening to them and researching the opportunity, I decided to take a leap and do something I have never done before. It was an opportunity where I could do something part time in the Personal Development Industry and help other people solve their problems. It has led to a real change in me and my life.
This journey is what I am sharing in the Play by Play posts – this shall be the first of many….Stay tuned!
